Running Blog: Solution for Shin Splints????

7.20.09
I took a week off in order to rest my legs. I also put my boot camp membership on hold till after my race. I have been wanting to get back to my runs, but made myself wait a week. So off I went today. I only did 3.5 miles, but without pain!!! During my last week, I have spent a lot of time researching on the internet ways to cure my shin splints. I didn't like the one suggestion; slow down and cut back on miles. I am hoping that since I cut out the boot camp, I will be ok again. I tried one suggestion today; wrapping my shins in ace bandages. Let me tell you, the look was not pretty, but wow did it feel good. My legs kept warm ( not that I needed that in the heat today) and loose. I am going to keep trying that and see if it doesn't make a difference. I am still sticking with the ice before and after runs, increase calcium intake and stretching. Something has to work. I don't want to hurt myself but I am so excited about this race (goal) that is starring me in the face. My goal is to finish the race; running the entire race. I am not concerned about my time. That will come later.... I have felt great all night tonight. I am getting back on schedule and going to do Yoga and upper body conditioning for my cross training. Leave my leg work for the runs. Time will tell if this works.
